Connecting
the TS480 Front Panel
|
|
The TS480 front panel
presents a TTL interface for serial control and requires 9v from a DC power
unit. The cleanest interconnect is
to use USB, both at the client side and the host side. FTDI provides an
evaluation kit for their USB to TTL technology. http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/TTL-232R.htm
These cables sell for $20 and are ideal for this
application, but they only provide part of the interface. Both the TS480
radio and the TS480 panel use a RJ11 telco connector for the panel
connection. The HOST interface consists of the above FTDIChip cable connected
to another cable terminated with an RJ11 connector. Your design for the client will have
to include a 9v wall power unit and the interfacing RJ11 module cable to the
panel. Software drivers for the USB serial interface can be found at the
referenced site. |
